  • Thanks to all who shared their love, well wishes and condolences to our family at this time. The outpouring of love, support and care was enormous and reflected the way Doug lived his life, with determination, a smile on his face and a desire to always take the next step to a better world. I encourage all who knew Doug to offer their support by donating (even a $1) to the Health Sciences Centre Research Foundation in his honour. This will help create a living legacy in surgical innovations in epilepsy research that can help those who are suffering now. • We have been friends with Doug since Andrew became a Buddhist in 2007. Doug was a great Buddhist leader who ran some men's group meetings and was the head of the Gajokai (ensuring safety and protection for members of our Buddhist organization). Our friendship grew when Doug came to our house more often to chant or visit. Andrew and Doug became close when he attended an Ultimate (Frisbee) game with his warm and caring girlfriend Pat. The following year he played on the team, and he and Andrew often practised before the start of the game. He was improving those throws faster than Andrew was! He accompanied Andrew to the after-game parties, where the rest of the team got to know him more. We were shocked to hear of him getting sick, and have prayed daily for his recovery. We'll miss him dearly. He'll always be in our thoughts. Rest in peace, Doug. - Posted by: Andrew & Mala Teeluck (Friends & Fellow Buddhist Members) on: Jun 10, 2014

  • Darryl and I are saddened to hear of Doug's passing. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and to dear Pat. We were so very lucky to get to know Doug and have him as a part of our Ultimate Frisbee team. Doug was an incredibly respectful and wonderful guy. We'd play every Tuesday evening in the summer months. Doug was a go getter and had a drive for the game like no other. He was dedicated and gave it more than 110% at every game. He played the hardest and went above and beyond to put himself out there during each and every game. Even taking a disc to the nose and losing his glasses didn’t stop him. He picked right back up and went back on the field with determination. He was full of the spirit in the game and never once had a negative reaction to his teammates or opposition. He was always happy to join the team for the after game gatherings at Boston Pizza. This is where we got to meet Pat and learn more about Doug. We can still remember him telling all of us about his new job. He loved it so much and you could tell it was a good change for him. His eyes sparkled and you could see a weight was lifted from his shoulders. He was just so very happy. Upon hearing of Doug’s situation, we decided to dedicate our first game this 2014 season to Doug. Our cheer was 3-2-1 DOUG! We are happy to report we won and it was a great game. Doug, you’ll be missed but never forgotten. May you rest in peace and may your family and friends be given comfort in this time of need. -on behalf of all of us on ‘team’- Darryl & Leah - Posted by: Darryl & Leah Brown (Teammates of Doug - Ultimate Frisbee) on: Jun 09, 2014
